Our service area: Columbus, Phenix City, Auburn and 40 miles around
Sherrill Co. works out of one shop at 4754 Miller Rd in north Columbus, and our trucks cover about 40 miles in every direction. That keeps us close to Columbus, Fortson and Cataula in Georgia, makes us a Phenix City AL electrician just six miles across the river, and brings us out to Auburn and Opelika on a regular basis.
Tap a town on the map to see what we do there, or call and ask. If you're near the edge of our range, we'll tell you straight whether we can get to you.

Columbus, GA: home base since 1984
Columbus is where we started as a Columbus GA electrician in 1984, and it is where we still do most of our work. Our shop sits in the Crystal Valley area of north Columbus, so most of the city is a short drive, whether you're near Peachtree Mall, up in Green Island Hills or down in the historic neighborhoods around Uptown.
The city has a real mix of housing, and each part of town tends to need something different. Older homes in Midtown, Wynnton and Lakebottom often still have original wiring, two prong outlets or panels that were never sized for today's appliances. There, the work is usually careful troubleshooting, grounded outlets, rewiring and panel upgrades.
Newer neighborhoods on the north side tend to call us for EV chargers in the garage, generator maintenance, landscape and security lighting, and extra circuits for home offices and workshops. We do both kinds of work every week, and we know what to look for in each.
Businesses across Columbus call us too, from small offices to shops along Veterans Parkway and Manchester Expressway. Commercial customers get the same direct line to the shop and the same licensed crew as homeowners.

Alabama license 02198Licensed electrical contractor in Alabama and Georgia
Your Phenix City AL electrician, right across the river
For a lot of our customers, the Chattahoochee is just a bridge. Phenix City homes and businesses sit about six miles from our shop, and we're licensed to work there under Alabama electrical contractor license 02198. You get the same family business, the same crew and the same follow up call you would get on our side of the river.
As a Phenix City AL electrician, we handle the full range of work we do in Georgia. That goes for older homes near downtown Phenix City and newer subdivisions out toward Ladonia and Smiths Station alike, plus shops and offices across Russell County.
- Outlet, breaker and wiring repair
- Electrical panel upgrades
- EV charger installation
- Generator maintenance
- Lighting and ceiling fans
- Commercial electrical work
A lot of families live in Phenix City and work in Columbus, or the other way around, and plenty of small businesses have a location on each side of the river. Having one Phenix City AL electrician who is also licensed in Georgia means one phone number, one crew that already knows your properties, and no starting over when a job crosses the state line.
Because Phenix City is so close, it gets the same scheduling as Columbus. Call during office hours and we can usually talk through the problem on the spot, and the emergency services line covers Phenix City nights and weekends.
Storm outage in Phenix City? Phenix City is on Alabama Power, not Georgia Power. If the whole street is dark, report it to Alabama Power first. If it's only your house, or the storm damaged your meter or the line to your home, that's when to call your Phenix City AL electrician on our emergency line at (706) 566-3994.
Auburn and Opelika, AL: worth the drive
Auburn sits about 34 miles west of our shop, near the outer edge of our range, and we do a lot of work there. Outside of Columbus and Phenix City, the Auburn and Opelika area is one of the busiest parts of our service area, and Auburn customers get the same licensed crew and the same follow up call as a neighbor on Miller Rd.
Both cities keep growing, and new construction brings steady demand for EV charger installation, added circuits, lighting upgrades and generator maintenance. Around Auburn University, rental homes and older houses closer to downtown Auburn and Opelika often need repairs, updated panels and more outlets than they were built with.
Homeowners looking for an electrician in Auburn AL usually find plenty of names, and it can be hard to tell who will still be around next year. What we offer is simple: a family business that has answered its own phone since 1984, licensed in both Alabama and Georgia, that calls you back a few days after the job to make sure everything is working.
Because Auburn is a longer drive, calling a few days ahead helps us line up the crew and the parts so one visit gets everything done. Our emergency services cover Auburn too, and we'll be honest with you about how long it will take us to get there.

Why hire a Columbus based electrician in Auburn AL?
Licensed in Alabama
We hold Alabama electrical contractor license 02198, so work in Auburn and Opelika is fully licensed, not a favor from across the state line.
42 years in one building
A company that has stayed at the same address since 1984 will still be around if you ever need a follow up visit or another project.
One call for both states
Own a home in Auburn and a rental in Columbus, or run businesses on both sides of the river? One electrical contractor covers all of it.
"JR and his team rewired my boat dock including the installation of new lights. They did a very professional job on all aspects of this boat dock work."

Cataula, Hamilton and the rest of Harris County
North of Columbus, Harris County trades city blocks for long driveways, bigger lots and lake homes. It's also where part of the Sherrill family grew up, so Cataula is close to home in more ways than one.
Rural properties bring their own electrical needs. Detached shops and barns need long underground service runs sized for the distance. Pump and fan motors wear out. Outdoor and security lighting matters more when the nearest streetlight is a mile away. And when a storm takes out power along a country road, a well maintained generator can keep the house running until the lines are back up.
Out on Lake Harding and the other lakes around the county, we wire boat docks and dock lighting built to hold up near the water, with the right protection for wet locations.
Cataula
About 9 miles from the shop, and a place we know well.
Hamilton
The county seat, about 16 miles north up Highway 27.
Pine Mountain
About 24 miles north, near the Callaway Gardens area.
Waverly Hall
About 15 miles northeast, with plenty of rural homes and farms.
Fortson and Midland, minutes from the shop
Fortson sits just north of our shop along the Muscogee and Harris County line, and it's one of the places our trucks head to most. Midland, on the east side of Columbus, is just as close.
Many homes out here are newer and larger, so the work is often about adding to what's already there: an EV charger in the garage, maintenance on the standby generator, landscape and security lighting for a long driveway, or dedicated circuits for a workshop, a pool or a home office.

Check your address(706) 569-7518
Are you a licensed Phenix City AL electrician?
Yes. Sherrill Co., LLC holds Alabama electrical contractor license 02198, so we are fully licensed to do electrical work in Phenix City, Smiths Station, Opelika, Auburn and the rest of our Alabama service area. On the Georgia side we work under license EN008188. You can check our Alabama license through the Alabama Electrical Contractors Board.
How far will Sherrill Co. travel for electrical work?
Our regular service area is about 40 miles in every direction from our shop at 4754 Miller Rd in Columbus. That reaches Auburn and Opelika to the west, Pine Mountain to the north and Cusseta to the south. For jobs a little past that line, call and ask. Larger projects outside the radius are sometimes possible, and we will give you a straight answer either way.
Do you really serve Auburn and Opelika from Columbus?
Yes. We do a lot of work in Auburn and Opelika, even though the drive is around 30 miles. Calling a few days ahead helps us plan the visit so we arrive with the right crew and parts and finish in one trip.
Are emergency services available outside Columbus?
Yes. Our emergency line at (706) 566-3994 covers our whole service area. Arrival time depends on distance, so a call from Phenix City or Fortson will usually be quicker to reach than one from Auburn, and we will always tell you honestly how long it will take.
Which power company do I call during an outage?
Most of Columbus and the Georgia side of our area is served by Georgia Power, while Phenix City, Auburn and most of the Alabama side are served by Alabama Power or a local city utility. Some rural areas are served by an electric membership cooperative, so check the name on your power bill. If only your home is out, or storm damage hit your meter or service line, call us.
Do you work in Harris County, including Cataula and Pine Mountain?
Yes. Harris County is a big part of our service area, including Cataula, Fortson, Hamilton, Waverly Hall, Ellerslie and Pine Mountain. We handle rural service runs to shops and barns, generator maintenance, outdoor lighting and boat dock wiring on Lake Harding, along with all of our regular home electrical services.
