A family owned electrician in Columbus GA since 1984

Sherrill Co. is one family, one building and one phone number that has been answered by a Sherrill for more than four decades. Thomas Sherrill Jr. opened the doors at 4754 Miller Rd in 1984, and the business has never moved. It's still run by the family today.

We're a small company on purpose. It lets us answer our own phone, send crews we trust and check back after every job. It's also why so many customers in Columbus, Phenix City and Auburn ask for our guys by name.

The Sherrill Co. story

There's no investor group or national brand behind us. Just a Columbus family, a shop on Miller Rd and a crew that has stuck around for a long time. Here's how a small shop has stayed a family owned electrician in Columbus GA for more than four decades.

1984

It all started with Thomas Sherrill Jr.

Thomas Sherrill Jr. opened Sherrill Co. in north Columbus in 1984. From the start, the focus was on what matters most to the people who call an electrician: quality work, honest service and relationships that last longer than the job.

More than 41 years later, he still leads the company as president and CEO, and that same focus still decides how we do things.

42 yrs

Same building on Miller Rd

Plenty of electrical companies have come and gone around Columbus since then. We stayed put. The shop at 4754 Miller Rd has been our one and only location since the first day, and that matters more than it sounds.

When you call about a job we did years ago, you're calling the same place, and there's a good chance you're talking to the same people. That kind of staying power is hard to fake.

Today

Still run by the family

Thomas Sherrill III joined the business more than nine years ago and now runs day to day operations as COO. He's the people person and the one who handles most estimates, so there's a good chance he's the Sherrill you talk to first. Sarah Sherrill has kept the office running for more than 11 years, covering billing, documentation and scheduling.

Around them is a crew that stays. Supervisors JR Owens and Eddie Sims have been with the Sherrill family for 18 and 17 years, and our newest apprentice is learning fast in the field.

"From Tom Sherrill down, everyone was super nice, helpful and professional." Keith Seeley, Google review

Always

Old fashioned care, modern know-how

The work has changed a lot since 1984. Today we install EV chargers, smart doorbells and LED lighting and maintain standby generators, alongside the outlets, panels and rewiring we’ve always done.

What hasn't changed is the way we work. We take the time to understand what you need, we do it right the first time, and we treat your home like it belongs to a neighbor, because in Columbus it usually does.

Why a family owned electrician in Columbus GA stays small on purpose

Growing bigger has never been the goal. Bigger companies need call centers, rotating crews and sales targets, and every one of those puts distance between you and the people doing the work. We've kept Sherrill Co. at a size where the family still knows every job on the schedule.

Staying local keeps us honest, too. The families we do electrical work for are the same ones we see around town, and a company that has been at the same address for 42 years can't disappear when something needs a second look.

It's also why we'd rather you call than fill out a form. A few minutes on the phone with a Sherrill tells us what's going on, what to bring and whether it's an emergency. That personal first conversation is how this business has worked since 1984, and it's how we plan to keep it.

What 42 years in Columbus has taught us

Four habits we don't compromise on, and what our customers say about each one.

Answer the phone

Call during office hours and you talk to a person, not a phone tree. After hours, the emergency services line picks up. We'd always rather talk it through with you than trade emails.

"Answered any questions I had."

Do it right the first time

We find the real cause instead of patching the symptom, and if we spot something unsafe while we're there, we tell you about it.

"They also informed me of a loose wire breaker box that could have caused problems."

Brandon Curry, Google review

Treat it like a neighbor's home

Show up when we said we would, work clean, and leave the place the way we found it, minus the electrical problem.

"Showed up on time, didn't leave a mess."

Check back after

A few days after the job, we call to make sure everything is working the way it should. If something isn't right, we come back.

"Called a few days later to make sure all their work was working."

Licensed, certified and easy to check

You shouldn't have to take our word for it. Both of our contractor licenses are public record, and you can look them up yourself in a couple of minutes. If a company won't give you its license number, that tells you something.

Since 1984. That is more than 42 years of electrical work in Columbus, all from the same building at 4754 Miller Rd, which has been our one and only location from the start.

Do you have more than one location?

No. We work out of one shop at 4754 Miller Rd, Columbus, GA 31909, and serve about 40 miles around it, including Phenix City, Auburn, Opelika, Fortson and Cataula.

Can I ask for a specific electrician?

Yes. Plenty of our customers ask for JR or Eddie by name, and we do our best to send the person you know when the schedule allows. Just mention it when you call.
